What Would You Like to Know?

WHY IS MOSS BAD FOR MY ROOF?

Moss is not only unsightly, it can also severely compromise your roof due to its ability to absorb moisture. A large amount of water that should fall down your roof and into your guttering system gets absorbed by the moss. Moss is also extremely likely to grow in-between tiles. As the moss expands over time it can lift and even crack tiles. During the colder months the water that is trapped between the tiles, freezes and thaws, pulling the tiles apart and causing them to crack. This in turn exposes structural works beneath, leaving it open to the elements.

WHY IS IT NOT GOOD TO PRESSURE WASH A ROOF?

A lot of roof tiles have a granular coating, which is designed to wear off over the years. When these tiles are pressure washed, the coating is prematurely removed and can significantly reduce the lifespan of the roof tile. Pressurised  water can also find it's way under tiles and through gaps and cracks, potentially flooding the loft space. There is also potential of damaging pointing around ridge tiles.

DO YOU OFFER AFTERCARE?

Yes, the great news is that once your roof has been initially scraped and treated. We can offer a maintenance programme for a fraction of the initial cost. This is where we apply the right concentration of biocide to keep your roof looking great and growth free. The maintenance programme would include re-application taking place between 2 and 5 years after initial treatment, this would depend on roof tile construction & condition as well as the surrounding areas. Shared roofs with neighbouring properties with growth build up will speed up the return of the organic growth, as will overhanging trees.
